Halloween Luminary Tutorial

Happy Halloween, everyone! Today, I have a spooky little luminary project to share with you. Even though it's a bit late to make one for this year, you could get a head start on next year, or alter the colors, stamps, and dies and make one in a fall or winter theme. The possibilities are endless with this die - one of my all-time faves!

Let's get started!

Begin by die cutting white cardstock using the 3D Luminary die. Cut four panels. Ink the poison label background stamp with Jet Black Archival ink. Position the luminary panel as shown, cover with a piece of scrap paper, and press down to transfer image. Stamping it this way allows you to see where the text will be stamped.

Next, use an inking tool and various shades of orange Distress ink to color the panels, front and back.

Apply Wonder Tape to all of the tabs. Crease all of the folds. With this die, it's a good idea to cut one panel to practice on. It's not really difficult, but can be a bit tricky the first time you try to figure out the folds.

Cut four panels slightly larger than the window opening from acetate/transparency. Cover all panels with Frosted Film. Glue windows to the back side of the panels, making sure the frosted side faces out.

Cut four spiders from black cardstock and adhere to center of each window. Remove backing from long tab and adhere to the next panel. Once that is in position, adhere the smaller tabs. Continue until your luminary is complete.

Not shown (oops!): Cut the lantern top piece twice from black cardstock. Join the pieces and fold as shown. Adhere to top of lantern. Cut the base piece from black cardstock and assemble.

To finish the lantern, I added some Striped Paper String and a Halloween Muse Token to the bottom. On the top, I fashioned a ring from black wire and glued it in place with hot glue. I added a sheer black bow and some mini pumpkins. The top of the luminary is trimmed with some idea-ology Tissue Tape. I also spritzed the luminary with a little gold Perfect Pearls mist to give it some sparkle.

Bottle of Spiders Tag

I can't believe how close Halloween is! Taking a two week vacation in the middle of October was great, but it sure put a crimp in my Halloween creating time. Before I left, I made this fun apothecary tag that's featured on the Sizzix blog today. I hope you enjoy it!
